Summary
We are offering the opportunity for someone passionate about becoming a veterinary nurse to experience all parts of veterinary care to become well-rounded and experienced in all sectors of vet nursing. The candidate will be driven to provide excellence in care and standards to our patients and clients.

Apprenticeship NMW for first year of course: £7.55ph followed by standard UK NMW for remainder of the course. Aim is to have all qualified nurses on £27,000-£30,000 following completion of course.

Surbiton Clinic: Days only 8am-8pm, 7 days on, 7 days off.
Fulham and Grayshott: day shifts.
Training to be at Surbiton prior to Grayshott & Fulham sites opening.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Reception skills and client communication
- High level disinfection or clinic organisation with stock control and daily cleans of the wards and equipment
- Take part in patient husbandry from walking, feeding, cleaning bedding, grooming and administering medications
- Patient handling for a variety of species
- Sedation and general anaesthesia monitoring
- Patient recovery
- Laboratory work on a variety of internal machines
- Learn to take bloods and place IVs
- Learn to position for radiographs
- Witness and assist in referral surgeries alongside diplomats and certificate holders
- Conduct nursing consults when required
We encourage our nurses to be practical and hands-on, learning skills to enable blood taking, IV placements and radiograph positioning so they can support the vets in patient care and be part of the process to improving patients' lives!

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Work within the requirements of the health and safety legislation
- Work within the requirements of the data protection legislation
- Follow relevant operating procedures and manufacturers guidelines when using equipment, materials and pharmaceutical products
- Communicate effectively, appropriately and accurately using a variety of methods
- Conduct nursing clinics
- Prepare and maintain all areas of the veterinary practice at all times
- Prepare records, equipment and resources
- Work in a safe and effective manner
- Manage and perform effective infection control procedures
- Provide nursing support as required
- Prepare, use, maintain, store and dispose equipment, pharmaceuticals and materials appropriately
- Manage own performance and development
- Take measures to improve performance and competence
- Engage in continued professional and personal development
- Use professional standards of practice to self-assess performance
- Practise in accordance with the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 Minimum (grade A*-C or 9-4)
- English Language (grade A*-C or 9-4)
- Maths (grade A*-C or 9-4)
- Science (grade A*-C or 9-4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
