Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will be based at our off-site manufacturing facility in Oldbury, where we fabricate and assemble structural steelwork for installation on LOR new-build projects, including hospitals, schools, football stadiums and airports.

Structural steel frames, designed to support and shape our buildings, are fabricated in our facility in accordance with construction drawings and specifications. Once completed, these frames are handed over to other teams within the facility to integrate mechanical and electrical services before being delivered to our specialist site teams for installation.

As a Structural Steelwork Fabricator, you will learn to work with a variety of steel sections and components using both modern and traditional fabrication techniques. This will include marking out, cutting, preparing, and assembling structural steelwork to precise tolerances, as well as developing welding skills to produce high-quality finished products. You will work closely with experienced fabricators who will support your development, helping you build practical skills, confidence, and a strong understanding of structural steelwork.

Accuracy, attention to detail, and a positive attitude to learning are essential, and full training will be provided.
