Summary

The role will focus on operational excellence and elevated levels of customer service with an additional focus on continuous improvement. This is 18-months rotation programme with 6-months in each of Financial Shared Services Center service lines (this may vary based on business needs and apprenticeship length).

Apprentice salaries increase annually with experience and are reviewed each September. Apprentices are also included in Parker Meggitt's bonus scheme, receiving a minimum of 2.5%, which may increase depending on overall company performance.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Finance Apprentice is responsible for delivery of consistent, streamlined, global Procure to Pay processes
  • Processing purchase invoices, including workflow management for queries and approvals, statement reconciliations, payment runs, and vendor/site query management
  • Bank statement downloads, cash posting in SAP, invoicing support, reporting, collections, dispute resolution, and coordination with site representatives
  • Balance sheet and bank reconciliations, VAT returns, intercompany, and fixed asset/depreciation reconciliations
  • Involved in stakeholder meetings to resolve disputes and build strong relationships, carrying out root cause analysis to prevent future vendor issues

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Assistant Accountant Level 3.

Alongside your day role, you will work to complete your apprenticeship with your external training provider. You will be given 20% off the job hours, this will give you the knowledge, training and external approval to do your job effectively.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)
  • Mathematics (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)
  • Three Other Subjects (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Be at least 16 years of age when starting this apprenticeship. Have the right to work in the UK.
Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for at least the past three years prior to starting the apprenticeship.
Have completed full-time education before the apprenticeship is due to start. For this programme, you must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance.
