Summary

We are looking for an accounting apprentice to join us and learn the basics of accounting. You will work closely with our senior accountants and assist them with tasks such as bookkeeping, preparing invoices, reconciling accounts and preparing reports. You will also study for a professional qualification in accounting while working with us.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of financial transactions.
  • Process invoices, payments and expenses in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile bank statements and other accounts.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports and statements.
  • Assist with tax compliance.
  • Support the senior accountants with any other accounting duties as required.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

Training will take place one day per week with Havant and South Downs College at the Havant Campus.  There will also be regular visits to the workplace and review meetings with the work based trainer.

If candidate already has A Level Accounts or a specific Business A Level/Level 3 qualification, they may be able to start straight onto the Level 3 AAT.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Business or Accounts (grade c)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

We are a small to medium accountancy practice based outside of Gunwharf in Portsmouth. We operate across many industries, but more recently have found a niche in hospitality and construction.
