Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The job initially will focus on Purchase ledger admin, including-

  • Setting up new suppliers
  • Checking invoices to Po’s /obtaining authorisation
  • Coding and posting invoices to the account’s ledgers accurately
  • Running aged creditor reports for payment runs
  • Obtaining authorisation for weekly payments and processing on bank to be released

General accounts duties including but not limited to –

  • Opening new clients
  • Opening new jobs
  • Matching and coding credit card expenses
  • Opening and distributing post
  • Credit control
  • Invoice Discounting admin
  • Learning and understanding the accounting software Workbook
  • Running ad hoc system reports as requested
  • Cover of team during annual leave will also be expected

  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2 - AAT

This apprenticeship is a perfect match for someone without any accountancy or bookkeeping knowledge. On this programme they will learn the building blocks of the modern accountant. Not only will they grasp the fundamentals of bookkeeping but we will help them develop those vital skills and behaviours to enable them to put their knowledge into action.

If you’re new to accountancy and finance, looking to change your career into accountancy or have previously worked in an accounts department this level is ideal for you. You don’t need any prior experience working in accounts to study AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. There are no entry requirements, but you do need good maths, IT and English skills, and a willingness to learn.

You’ll learn a broad range of core accounting skills, including double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing as well as accountancy related business skills and personal skills. You must successfully complete the following:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (ITBK)
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Control (POBC)
  • Principles of Costing (PCTN)
  • Business Environment (BESY)
  • You will also be required to complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which will include a synoptic assessment and interview with supporting portfolio

Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons or Live Online. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate time to off the job training, as well as completing knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with your apprenticeship.

  • English (grade 9/A* - 4/C)

Other requirements

Please note this role is national minimum wage and hybrid with 3 days in office and 2 days at home (college day to be classed as home day). Benefits and holiday; 22 days holiday, birthday day off, bank holidays, workplace pension (after 3 months service), free onsite parking, CTW scheme, refreshments and breakfast provided. Piccadilly station less than 10 mins walk away and close to bus links.
