Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As an Apprentice Vehicle Paint Sprayer, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience in the art of vehicle painting. You will be trained in the preparation, priming, and spraying of vehicles to the highest standards, ensuring every job meets the specific requirements of our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of vehicles for painting, including sanding, masking, and priming
- Learn how to mix paints, varnishes, and other materials
- Apply base coats, topcoats, and finishes using spray equipment
- Maintain equipment and keep the work area clean and safe
- Learn about vehicle surfaces, paint types, and other essential techniques
- Ensure all jobs are completed to the company’s quality standards

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
- Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
- Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
- Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
- Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment
Training schedule
Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Level 3.
The Training Plan for this apprenticeship will be 2-days per month workshop training at PSA Training Centre in Peterborough, including a blend of practical and theory training, plus on-the-job workplace mentoring at VRS UK Ltd.

You will learn the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours required for the Paint Technician role.
You will create a portfolio of evidence through an online logbook with IMI.
On completion of your training, you will complete an End Point Assessment with IMI including an online knowledge test, a professional discussion on your portfolio of evidence, and a 2-day skills test.
