Bloomsbury are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice with a keen interest in starting a career in the publishing industry to join their children’s Marketing & Publicity teams. The Children’s Marketing & Publicity Department is a fast-paced, exciting environment.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • General admin tasks including diary management, setting and minuting meeting agendas, maintaining databases, booking taxis and couriers and ordering books and point of sale material
  • Completing review mailings for press and social media influencers and distributing marketing materials
  • Contributing creative campaign ideas to team brainstorms and planning sessions
  • Creating press releases, social media calendars and other trade-facing materials 
  • Research tasks including media and social media contacts lists
  • Designing marketing assets including Amazon A+ pages, social media posts and printed point of sale material
  • Attending and assisting with events and book launches e.g. librarian conferences, YALC and festivals
  • Curating and scheduling social media content under the guidance of our Digital Marketing Manager

  • Follow publishing guidelines relevant to their role to produce products or publications that meet budgets, are on schedule and meet company and industry standards.
  • Ensure appropriate changes are highlighted and agreed with stakeholders
  • Apply rigour and attention to detail
  • Escalate issues and concerns, in line with company process.
  • Identify stakeholders, build relationships and manage expectations
  • Present appropriate information clearly and concisely, whether internal or external.
  • Ensure that products or publications meet contractual structures agreed with authors or other content providers.

Training schedule

To meet the requirements of the Level 4 Publishing Professional apprenticeship programme you will need to spend 6 hours a week of your time undertaking off-the-job learning, which will include:

  • Formal training, including online learning and internal learning events
  • 1-2-1s with your coach and line manager
  • Observing and shadowing colleagues
  • Writing up learning reflections for your portfolio

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4-9 or A*-C)
  • Maths (grade 4-9 or A*-C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
