Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Learning how to set up, operate and adjust equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used
- Apply a variety of fabrication techniques such as cutting, bending and welding
- Perform operating duties as requested on or within target times
- Work to required quality standards and procedures to ensure products are manufactured to company requirements
- Understand the importance of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’S)
- Be able to read and understand Engineering Drawings
- Use a variety of measuring equipment to ensure all inspection requirements are completed
- Accurately complete all system transactions related to your job role
- Understand how businesses operate and the interrelationships between departments and activities

Training schedule
You will complete a 4-year apprenticeship specialising in metal fabrication and will study with TDR Training, completing a portfolio of evidence to prove their competence to achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Metal Fabrications.
At the start of your apprenticeship, you’ll spend the first 12 weeks at TDR Training School in Longbenton. You’ll then join the team at CMP, in Cramlington, where you’ll spend four days per week in the factory while attending college one day per week.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 9-4)
- Mathematics (grade 9-4)
