Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Supporting the site team with day-to-day management of live construction projects
- Assisting with site inductions, health and safety checks, and toolbox talks
- Helping coordinate subcontractors and suppliers
- Monitoring site progress, quality standards, and environmental responsibilities
- Attending design meetings and learning how projects move from plans to delivery
- Completing coursework and off-the-job training towards the Level 4 HNC qualification
- Learning to interpret drawings, specifications, and construction documentation

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
- Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
- Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
- Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
- Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
- Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
- Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.
Training schedule
Day Release - 1 day per week at the Mansfield NTU Campus completing studies.
Remaining 4 days per week - on live Clegg Construction site.
You may be required to work from our Nottingham Lace Market Head Office from time to time.
Requirements

Other requirements
This is a site-based role and the apprentice will be allocated to live construction sites throughout the two year apprenticeship. These will be confirmed one the candidate has started in September 2026.
The role involves working on live construction sites. This is often the most exciting and rewarding part of starting a career in construction as you’ll see the theory from your university studies come to life in practice, gaining hands-on experience alongside our project teams.
As part of this, you’ll be expected to follow site safety procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and uphold high standards of health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) at all times.
All necessary safety inductions and PPE will be provided by Clegg Construction.
