What you'll do at work

Job Overview:

The Apprentice Finance Assistant will provide comprehensive support to the Finance Team at Mid-View Healthcare, working closely with the Finance Manager. The role combines practical finance responsibilities with completing a Level 3 Finance Apprenticeship, providing a strong foundation for a career in finance within the health and social care sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Administration & Accounting Support:

  • Assist with processing invoices, receipts, and expense claims.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and data.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and petty cash handling.
  • Support monthly financial reporting, reconciliations, and routine month-end processes (including VAT returns and credit card processing).
  • Cross-check financial data in internal systems to ensure accuracy and standardisation.
  • Assist with payroll administration, including input of new starters, and complete payroll in the absence of senior finance staff once fully trained.
  • Support the preparation of termly fee invoices, manage queries, and process payments as required.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve invoice or payment queries.
  • Post and raise invoices and maintain a full purchase ledger.
  • Assist with on-site visits from the Audit Team.
  • Analyse financial reports against KPIs and provide commentary or recommendations.

Software & Systems:

  • Learn and apply finance software and tools (e.g., Xero, Nomisma) under supervision.
  • Maintain digital and physical filing systems for financial and administrative documents.

Cross-Department Support:

  • Provide administrative support across Finance, Fundraising, HR, and Operations.
  • Help prepare internal reports and presentations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly.

Learning & Development:

  • Complete the Level 3 Finance Apprenticeship as part of the role.
  • Develop practical skills in accounting, payroll, reporting, and financial analysis within a healthcare setting.

Skills & Attributes Required:

  • Previous exposure to accounting or finance is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn and develop finance and administrative skills.

What you'll learn

  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Your programme will be delivered online, with the following structure:

  • Every two weeks, you will attend a 3-hour live online classroom session.
  • During these sessions, new topics will be taught by your tutor.
  • You’ll also be expected to complete an additional 3 hours of coursework related to the session.
  • Between sessions, you’ll complete self-study tasks using the BPP and Kaplan platforms, spread throughout the week.
  • Required learning resources, such as textbooks, will be delivered to your home or workplace address, depending on your preference.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4 and above)
  • Math's (grade 4 and above)

Desirable qualifications

Other in:

AAT (grade Pass)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
