Work

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
  • Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
  • Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
  • Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
  • Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.

Training schedule

Training for this apprenticeship is delivered through a blend of workplace learning, online teaching sessions, and dedicated off-the-job hours built into your working week. You’ll complete monthly remote workshops, regular progress reviews with your trainer, and structured tasks through an online e-portfolio. Your practical skills will be developed hands-on in the nursery each day, supported by your mentor and the wider team. All training is completed either online or at your workplace, so you won’t need to travel elsewhere.

Your training will be delivered by an experienced early years training provider specialising in Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications.

The course follows a structured curriculum covering child development, safeguarding, behaviour, play and learning, and the EYFS framework. You’ll work through modules in a set order, completing online teaching sessions, practical tasks, and knowledge assignments. Your trainer will visit (or meet with you remotely) for observations and reviews, ensuring your learning links directly to your day-to-day practice. The programme builds your confidence step by step, preparing you for your End-Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship.

Training will include paediatric first aid qualification.

Little Oaks Childcare is a private care and education centre for children from 3 months - 5 years. Situated in the market town of Spalding, we are privileged to share Maytree Lodge and its beautiful river setting with lots of local families. Little Oaks is a family run Nursery and pre-school comprising of 3 core groups, Babies, Toddlers, and a separate on-site 2-storey Pre-school.

After this apprenticeship

On completion, you’ll be a fully qualified Level 3 Early Years Educator, opening the door to roles such as Room Leader, SEN support, Deputy Manager, or continuing your training with Level 5 early years qualifications. Many apprentices progress into permanent positions within the nursery as their confidence and skills grow.
