Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Daily duties will include, but won't be limited to:

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out and bringing in
  • Tacking up and tack cleaning
  • Filling hay nets, feeding and watering
  • Clipping, pulling, plaiting, trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Paddock and yard maintenance
  • Schooling and hacking
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground
  • Holding vet, farrier, dentist and physio
  • Handling fit event horses

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training schedule

The successful candidate will undertake 15 months training whilst working towards their Intermediate Equine Groom apprenticeship. All training will be carried out at the employer's premises, with the support of the employer, and will be delivered by Haddon Training.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

No specific qualifications required but applicants must have confidence and previous experience around compettion horses.

Must have a desire to work as part of a team and also want to learn about producing and competing event horses at all levels. 

Shared Accommodation available with bills included, and the possibility of bringing your own horse.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a team, but also able to think and work independently, will have a positive attitude and can-do 'mentality, have a willingness to learn, be a hard worker, can adapt and be flexible when required.

Bill Levett Eventing can help you work towards your goals, drawing up a specific plan for you and your horse, covering both flat work and jumping. They also take on long term coaching posts, and give clinics both around the UK and overseas.
