What you'll do at work

Key Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial team in managing project finances and variations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring Project Costs: Track and report financial movements for each project, ensuring accurate records of income and expenditure
  • Variation Management: Collect and organise all relevant data for project variations, including photos, drawings, and cost details
  • Submit compiled information to the Project Manager and Senior QS for review and approval
  • Drawing Reviews: Regularly check updated drawings to identify changes that may impact project timelines or costs

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Training schedule

Training will take place at Croydon College Campus on a day-release basis (one day per week).

The role is based at SL6 4UW, and while regular travel to Croydon College is expected, any additional travel requirements will be discussed with the candidate in advance.

More training information

As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll receive structured training delivered by Croydon College. You’ll attend college one day per week on a day-release basis, with at least 20% of your working hours dedicated to training and study.

This blend of classroom learning and on-the-job experience will help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in your role.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5)
  • Maths (grade 5)

Other in:

Construction or Projects Management (grade Pass)

Other requirements

A driving licence is helpful but not essential, and on-site parking is available. A CSCS card isn’t required as the role is office-based, though site visits may occur and certification can be arranged later. The office is a 10 minute walk from Maidenhead Station with direct links to Paddington and Central London. If you have relevant qualifications or experience, please inform the company, your apprenticeship can be tailored to reflect your existing knowledge and skills.

Premier Mechanical Installations Limited is a mechanical fabrication and installation company specialising in data center projects across the UK and Europe. We support our clients throughout the design phase of each project, with a particular focus on Chilled Water-Cooling Systems. Once the design drawings are approved, we convert them into detailed fabrication drawings. This involves breaking down the system into modular pipe sections, which are then manufactured for installation.
