Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As a Carer Apprentice, you’ll work alongside our experienced care team, supporting individuals to live as independently as possible within their homes and community. You’ll gain hands-on experience in personal care, meal preparation, medication support, and promoting wellbeing. You’ll also learn how to communicate effectively, follow care plans, maintain professional boundaries, and work as part of a compassionate, people-centred team. This role offers an excellent foundation for a long-term career in health and social care.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Support individuals with daily living tasks, including personal care, meal preparation, and household duties
  • Promote independence, dignity, and choice in all aspects of care and support
  • Assist individuals with community activities and encourage their social engagement
  • Follow customised care plans and record accurate daily notes and observations
  • Communicate effectively with service users, families, and colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and safeguarding procedures

What you'll learn

  • Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
  • Ask for help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of their role
  • Provide individuals with information to enable them to have a choice about the way they are supported
  • Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
  • Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
  • Contribute to the on-going development of care/support plans for the individual they support
  • Support individuals with cognitive, physical or sensory impairments
  • Ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with the individuals they support, their families, carers and advocates
  • Demonstrate all work is person centred, accommodating the individual’s needs, wishes and preferences
  • Demonstrate empathy (understanding and compassion) for individuals they support
  • Demonstrate courage in supporting people in ways that may challenge their personal/cultural beliefs

Training schedule

This involves regular catchups, check-in emails and calls. Your employer will agree to give you 20% of your working hours solely towards your study.

This will give you every chance to achieve the highest grade possible! On completion of this 12-month apprenticeship you will have gained; Adult Care Worker - Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

Other in:

Driving License (grade Pass)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Working hours - Please note that anyone under the age of 18 can only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours should be amended accordingly, to fall in line with the legislation.
