What you'll do at work

Please Note: You must hold a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification
As an Adult Care Support Staff, your key responsibilities include:

  • Personal care for clients:
  • Cooking
  • Household chores
  • Assisting with medication
  • Encouraging social and physical activities such as shopping
  • Promote the clients' well-being and safety

Personal Care Support duties will include:

  • Assisting individuals with bathing
  • Dressing
  • Hygiene
  • Eating to maintain their personal well-being
  • Health Monitoring
  • Regularly monitoring vital signs (like temperature, pulse, and respiration) and recording information to report to other healthcare professionals
  • Social and Emotional Support
  • Providing companionship, engaging in conversations, and offering emotional support to individuals and their families
  • Activity Support
  • Helping people take part in activities they enjoy
  • Encouraging new skills
  • Supporting social and physical engagement within the community
  • Empowering individuals to maintain control and choice in their own lives, helping them to achieve personal goals and live as independently as possible
  • Working closely with other healthcare professionals, family members, and support staff to ensure a comprehensive and integrated care plan is provided
  • Accurately recording essential information in daily reports, including updates on health, care plans, and any incidents that occur

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Develop and apply systems and processes needed to ensure compliance with regulations and organisational policies and procedures
  • Implement strategies to support others to manage the risks presented when balancing individual rights and professional duty of care
  • Develop and apply systems and processes that monitor and sustain quality of the service, including assessments, care plans and service delivery
  • Lead and support others to work in a person centred way and to ensure active participation which enhances the well-being and quality of life of individuals
  • Encourage and enable both staff and people who access care and support to be involved in the co-production of how the service operates
  • Manage all resources in delivering complex care and support efficiently and effectively
  • Develop and lead implementation of organisational practices to create and sustain a culture that actively champions dignity and respects diversity, inclusion and fairness in the workplace
  • Develop and lead a culture that values courage in working in ways that may challenge workers’ own cultural and belief systems
  • Develop and implement organisational processes to ensure that records and reports are written clearly and concisely and to keep information safe and preserve confidentiality

  • Take initiative to research and disseminate current drivers in the adult care landscape

GCSE in:
