Summary

Learn skills and gain experience towards becoming a Maintenance Engineer within Food Manufacturing. Working with the maintenance engineering team to establish and maintain safe, compliant, and effective engineering operations by following the engineering strategy for proactive work whilst responding to breakdowns

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The role will require:

  • Completion of relevant Level 3 qualification  and attend college weekly at our nominated training provider.
  • Work with the maintenance team to Perform planned and predictive maintenance of equipment and complete ad hoc repairs in a timely manner and by prioritising works in line with site priorities to ensure that efficient production is maintained 
  • Work with the maintenance team to assess the need for spares by ensuring that the critical spares and spares list is up to date and stock is at the required levels. Escalate any issues in a timely manner to the Engineering manager
  • Work with the maintenance team to ensuring a safe environment by conducting all servicing and maintenance activities with minimal risk to employees, products and equipment. Champion safety 
  • Work with the maintenance team to start using route cause analysis on breakdowns to identify actions and drive completion of actions to prevent re-occurrence
  • Work with the maintenance team to support the energy reduction and sustainability agenda to reduce environmental impacts across the site by ensuring all actions are completed
  • Participate in daily and weekly review sessions to drive the improvement throughout the site
  • Undertake training and engaging with other members of the maintenance team to wider knowledge in all areas of maintenance

Your training plan

The training will take place both in the workplace and at York College and will typically be 4 days a week in work and 1 day at York College during college term time.

This Level 3 apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician and we offer the following routes:

Electrical Technician
Mechanical Technician
Electrical System and Process Control Technician
Electromechanical Technician
You will also work towards the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Diploma and produce a portfolio of evidence on which the End-Point Assessment (EPA) technical interview will be based.

GCSE in:

  • Science (grade 4)

Desirable qualifications

BTEC in:

Engineering (grade Pass)
