Summary

TAs work with and care for children of all ages. They play an integral part in pupils’ well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive environment. TAs will be offered a personalised pathway to develop in up to two specialist areas: Special Educational Needs and Disability , Early Years, Behaviour, English as an Additional Language and Assessment.

£12,955.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

During the apprenticeship, duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting students to accomplish their daily goals in a variety of subjects
  • Work with teachers to understand and support assessment
  • Develop effective and informed practice
  • Safeguard and promote the health, safety and welfare of children
  • Develop strategies for support

  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be awarded the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship and Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English, if required.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade Grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade Grade 4/C)

After this apprenticeship

It is up to you what you do when you have finished your apprenticeship. There may be an opportunity to stay on at the same company and progress to the next level of qualification, High Level Teaching Assistant. Alternatively, you may want to look for a new job or other professional development opportunity. 

For the duration of the apprenticeship, the employer will provide a training contract but may lead to permanent contract if mutually acceptable.
