Summary

The role consists of processing prescription requests and handing out medications to patients. Responding to requests and enquiries from patients via telephone, email and in person. In accordance with current protocol, to receive prescription and other payments and ensure these are appropriately accounted for.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This is a customer facing role and the post holder will be part of the dispensary clerk team responsible for handing out medications and processing prescription requests, using our clinical system SystmOne. Good communication skills are essential as this role will include responding appropriately to queries from patients on the telephone, via email and in person.  In accordance with current protocol, to receive prescriptions and other payments and ensure these are appropriately accounted for. To work effectively as part of the team, ensuring that all tasks are accurately completed. The dispensary clerk team carry out a variety of tasks which assist with the smooth running of our dispensary service and full training will be given.

Other requirements

Good standard of English literacy, numeracy and IT skills 5 GCSEs or equivalent, pass in Maths and English (or predicted pass). The duration of the apprenticeship is for a minimum of 12 months and mainly consists of on-the-job training within the workplace.

After this apprenticeship

This role will predominantly be based in our dispensary department initially but with the opportunity to gain experience in our administrative department as the apprenticeship progresses. On completion of the apprenticeship the post-holder will have gained the skills and experience necessary to be able to confidently seek employment in administrative/dispensary clerk roles in general practice or the wider NHS.
