What you'll do at work

Description of the vacancy: The Financial Reporting and Compliance team is based within the CFO team, responsible for supporting accurate reporting and supporting financial sustainability, based at our Avery Hill Campus.

The CFO team is seeking to appoint a Finance Apprentice for 36 months with the possibility of the role becoming permanent following the end of the development scheme. As part of the scheme, the Finance Apprentice would also complete their ACCA accreditation. The role sits within a busy team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness for our financial reporting and supporting the delivery of the University’s strategy. As a Finance Apprentice, you will be expected to complete the learning and development requirements of the role which include training days, completing the ACCA, being mentored in year 1, and becoming an active member of the FRC team.

As a trainee, you will be expected to utilise the support on offer to maximise the benefits.

  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.  Adapt communications to suit different  situations, individuals or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others.  Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles  to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.

  • Applied Knowledge helps you understand the role of accounting in the business environment, and develop the practical skills and techniques expected of an accountant working in business

  • Corporate and business law (ENG) (LW) Performance Management (PM) Taxation (TX-UK) Financial Reporting (FR) Audit and Assurance (AA) Financial Management (FM) By studying Strategic Professional, you’ll learn advanced techniques, skills, and the professional ethics required of an accountant or consultant operating at a senior level
  • Once you’ve successfully passed you can apply to be a full member of ACCA

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Basic Maths (grade 9/A* - 4/C)
  • Standard English (grade 9/A* - 4/C)

Other in:

Degree (grade Any)

Other requirements

Benefits include: 26 days, increasing to 35 depending on length of service. Hybrid working - We ask for a minimum 2 days a week in office. Working hours: 9:00-17:00
