Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • To support the Childcare Practitioners and all other members of staff to facilitate appropriate activities and experiences, suitable for children’s individual stages of learning and development
  • To support all other team members in maintaining a safe, secure, healthy and hygienic working environment (including an awareness of any dietary and health requirements)
  • To work as part of a team, supporting all other staff members with the day to day running of the nursery. To demonstrate initiative in the workplace environment
  • To have regard for the nurseries Inclusion and Equality Policy and uphold the values of this in everyday practise
  • To be aware of health and safety implications within the workplace, such as the safe storage of toys and equipment and to report all accidents and incidents accordingly
  • Upholding confidentiality is a fundamental requirement of this position. All information relating to staff, children and their families must remain confidential
  • You will be expected to develop and maintain good relationships with children and families of the nursery, to enhance continuity of care and effective communication of information
  • You will be expected to attend monthly staff meetings for one hour within your contracted work time. Staff meetings will be held at nursery. This will be an opportunity to inform team members of any relevant information regarding your key children and to participate in sharing thoughts and ideas for the benefit of the children
  • Undertake staff development training where identified and as appropriate
  • Undertake other duties required as requested by the Senior Childcare Practitioner, Deputy Manager or Manager

  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.

Other requirements

This is a 21-month apprenticeship and applicants MUST BE free from full time education to be eligible to apply for it and have the minimum qualification level to apply for it Applicants MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK. Applicants WILL NOT BE eligible to apply if they have already achieved a qualification which is equal to or higher thank the apprenticeship standard on offer. Applicants MUST BE resident in the area local to the apprenticeship opportunity or be prepared to relocate in time to start employment and study. Applicants MUST BE committed to the learning and stay to the end of the apprenticeship.   •  Paediatric First Aid
  •  Food hygiene & Safeguarding training will be arranged for you to attend
  • The setting Manager &/or the Room lead will suggest specific training for you to attend, that they feel you may benefit from
  • Regular Supervision meetings are carried out over the year, this is an opportunity for training conversations to take place
  • The setting manager ensures an ‘open door’ policy, where you are welcome to suggest any training, you may wish to carry out
