Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

You will have the opportunity of joining a great team – working in a business that is determined to make a positive difference to our environment and you will learn a whole raft of new skills – from working as part of the production team, to helping within the digital team and understanding artwork files to working within the commercial team.

This apprenticeship will provide you with a significant amount of new skills and be backed up by achieving your Signage Technician course through the BPIF (British Printing Industries Foundation) Leve 3 course – this is a 2yr apprenticeship.

Working at our large format division factory you will learn how to produce large printed materials, from signs to banners and stands, Point of sale materials and creating beautiful exhibition graphics.

You will learn how multiple machines work, learning new skills.

  • Learning how to process digital artwork files and different software
  • Working alongside the commercial team to help on the administration side of the business
  • Learn computer production software
  • Learn to use large digital printers
  • Learn to use large digital cutting machines

At the end of your 2yr apprenticeship you will have achieved your Level 3 Signage Technician apprenticeship.

You will have a comprehensive understanding of how a large format printing business works + a vast array of skills from processing artwork to printing and cutting.

You will also have insight on how a business works by gaining experience on the administration and commercial side of the business.

Our aim is to provide you all the skills and experience to become a key part of the Seacourt team.

Once completed you will have a complete understanding of how all aspects of the business works and be a key colleague

Signage technician (level 3)

Course contents
  • Interpret information, for example customer briefs, specifications and work instructions.
  • Conduct site survey.
  • Calculate costs and prepare quotations.
  • Plan and schedule work.
  • Prepare for signage work.
  • Use graphic design software to design signage.
  • Create pre-fabrication files/instructions.
  • Select and use materials and components.
  • Assemble signs.
  • Trim, clean and add fixing features to signage such as eyelets, hinges and brackets, as required.
  • Protect materials and signs to prevent damage during manufacture, transportation and storage.
  • Apply, install or erect signs.
  • Check signage materials and products against quality requirements.
  • Identify and document risks and hazards in the workplace; advise on and apply control measures.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Comply with organisational and statutory environmental and sustainability considerations: safe disposal of waste, recycling of materials and efficient use of resources.
  • Select, set up, complete pre-checks and operate sign-making machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Maintain work area, tools and equipment for example, charge batteries and sharpen blades.
  • Use access equipment in the installation process, for example ladders, fixed and mobile platforms.
  • Communicate with colleagues and/or stakeholders – verbal, written or electronic; use industry terminology.
  • Complete documentation for example job sheets, maintenance records.
  • Rectify or report issues.

    Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the qualification obtained will be a Level 3 Signage Apprenticeship Standard.

    Apprentice will spend one day per week on their apprenticeship

    Most training and studying will be a combination of regular site-based visits at the employer's premises and remote delivery.

    Candidates without the required level of maths and English will be required to complete Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship.

    Apprentice will be mentored by Head of Seacourt XL and fully supported by wider Seacourt team

    More training information

    Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both your employer and BPIF Training to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship through a structured training plan.

    You will be assigned a training coordinator who will work with you throughout your apprenticeship to ensure that you have the best training and support available.

    Our aim is that once your 2 year apprenticeship is successfully completed that you continue to work with us – career progression is our absolute aim.

    Becoming a large format print project manager – a print technician or even working within the commercial team and supporting clients directly…there are many opportunities for you to develop your career.

    All our previous apprentices have gone on to get full time roles in the business once they have successfully completed their apprenticeship.
