Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Training provider

Competency based qualification - The NVQ is delivered through practical and written assignments which are carried out in college or sometimes in the workplace and apprentices will be required to produce work tasks and build an e-portfolio of evidence.

Knowledge qualification - College based Technical Certificate delivered on a day release basis.

Functional Skills - Level 1 in Maths and English - delivered in the classroom

Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) - are delivered alongside the competency qualification via workbooks.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
