Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship

- The job role will include basic hairdressing, cutting, blow-drying and colouring
- You will be expected to meet and greet clients, making and serving drinks, reception duties and cleaning duties
- Training will be given on a weekly basis in the work place; this may follow the college programme. Monthly or weekly meetings/appraisals may be given
Requirements and prospects
The employer would prefer some basic skills in cutting, blow-drying and colouring, self-motivation and a willingness to learn are essential.
- Time keeping
GCSE’s in Maths and English A* – C preferred, however functional skills can be gained in college if these cannot be produced.
- Progression to Level 3
- Self-employed within the salon
Things to consider
There may be at least one late shift per week and Saturday/Sunday work.
