Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
Minimum of 30 hours - Maximum of 40 hours
Total hours per week: 40.00

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
Duties to include:
- Salon reception duties - making appointments, answering the telephone
- Client Care - Customer service skills, communication
- General Housekeeping
- Assisting qualified stylist with services - e.g. cutting, colouring and perming
- Shampooing clients
- Stock taking
Requirements and prospects
- Can work as part of a team
- Can work individually if required
- Has good communication skills
- Has good customer service skills
- Be enthusiastic about the job they are applying for
- Interested in Hairdressing
- Willing to do an apprenticeship and do off the job training as well
GCSE's or equivalent are not required but can be advantageous when it comes to decision on Functional Skills Maths and English Level
Possible progression onto Advanced Apprenticeship program
Things to consider
Please bear in mind that working within the Hair and Beauty industry you are required to work long hours and especially Hairdressing you will be active for long periods of time.
You are more than likely going to be required to work Saturdays as this is a busy day for salons

Based in Sheffield, we attract customers from surrounding areas including Rotherham, Wadsley Bridge, Orgreave, Norton Lees, Nether Edge, Chesterfield, Worksop, Barnsley, Manchester and Doncaster.

We cater for both male and female clients of all ages, including children. Whether you have long or short hair, we can create the perfect style for you.
Training will be provided in the workplace or once a week in Oracle Training Centre (this is dependant on your salon owner) If it is decided you are in the workplace a trainer assessor will be visiting the salon for one to one sessions
You will be assessed on your competence in both practical and Theory
You will gain Hairdressing Level 2 NVQ Qualification, alongside this you will be required to do Functional Skills in Maths and English (dependant on any prior learning) Level will be determined on GCSE results or equivalent too.
We also include Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal listening and thinking skills (PLTS) within the qualification

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
