Chef Apprenticeship position available to learn the preparation and cooking of all fresh ingredients on site. This will include meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, breakfast, banqueting and desserts. You will learn basic kitchen skills and in addition learn about food hygiene, health & safety, storage and cleaning.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE English and Maths grades A-D (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Cookery/Food Tech desirable (or equivalent)

Individuals who already have a Level 4 qualification are now eligible for a Level 5 or above Higher Apprenticeship only. They are not eligible for government funding for an Intermediate Level, Advanced Level or Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Remember you will be physically active all day!

You will be working in a hot and busy kitchen

Also, you will work a rota which may require you to work weekends and evenings so this may affect your social life!

On the job training 4 days a week and also 1 day a week at WKc. NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, plus Technical Certificate and Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1.

Due to the nature of the hospitality sector, you may be required to work weekends / shifts / rota and your shift pattern may vary from week to week. You will be required to work 4 days in the work place and 1 day at college to total up to 40 hours per week.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
