    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Whilst gaining valuable training and experience you will be aiding the salon staff in the smooth day-to-day running, assisting the stylists and salon managers with their client base, to work hard to get good results and develop good relationships with clients and be aware of changing fashion trends, new looks and popular products.

Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Making teas and coffees
  • Assisting the stylists
  • Reception duties including answering the phone and making client appointments.
  • General housekeeping throughout the day to ensure the salon is always welcoming to the client
  • Candidates will be required to attend an interview and complete any assessments necessary

Future prospects:

Once you have completed your NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing you will become a qualified stylist. You will then have the opportunity to continue learning and further develop your skills by completing the NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing. This could lead to a very rewarding career within the hairdressing sector at various levels.

The (NVQ) Diploma in Hairdressing covers a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to prepare students for entry into the Hairdressing Industry.
It provides the student with basic skills in:

  • Client consultation
  • Shampooing and conditioning
  • Cutting
  • Colouring
  • Perming
  • Styling
  • Setting and dressing
  • Giving a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Health & Safety

This vacancy is being advertised based on 38 hours a week at the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices of £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time.
