Here is an exciting new opportunity for an IT Support Apprentice based in Manchester.

This company is the largest regional economy outside London and home to a diverse population of more than 2.5 million people. Specific areas we are responsible for include:

Metrolink, Buses, Rail, Highways, Travel Choice & Cycling, Smart Ticketing.

The purpose of this role is to deliver reliable, effective and efficient computing and telephony services from equipment provided throughout this company. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic support services to users accessible through a help-desk facility
  • The facility to be staffed during agreed hours
  • Receive, record and update support calls in a timely manner using agreed processes
  • Maintain accurate records of reported faults and full details of their resolution in accordance with ITIL processes
  • Provide details of services affected, expected duration and potential impact
  • Receive, record and mark new assets on receipt
  • Record the location and utilisation of assets within the organisation through to disposal
  • Work with Server & Communications team to support computer and communications equipment to enable delivery of corporate applications and services
  • Provide information across the department of the applicability of new technologies and how it could be utilised
  • Maintain register of loan equipment and borrower details

Personal qualities

Although not mandatory, it is desirable that the successful applicant has an interest in computing, internet technologies, social media etc

Qualifications required

Must have 5 GCSE’s at grades A*- C or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)

Training provider

The IT Apprenticeship programme gives young people the opportunity to get hands on experience in the IT industry whilst still employed in a real paid job with no cost or debt.

Learners will receive seven weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual assessment, and help and guidance from a dedicated trainer who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience.

Training will lead to industry-recognised qualifications including:

  • Advanced apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals
  • Level 3 Diploma in Professional
  • Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles
  • Functional skills, Maths L2, English L2 and ICT L2
  • PLTS and ERR

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
