In the first year of your apprenticeship your 'on the job' training in the salon will consist of assisting the qualified stylists on a daily basis to learn all aspects of the job and gain commercial experience. The duties will also include:

  • Shampoo and condition clients
  • Keeping the salon clean and tidy
  • Providing the clients with refreshments if needed

*As you become competent some of the duties below will become part of your daily duties in your salon.

Practical and theory training will be carried out at our training salon once a week where you will gain hands on experience in:

  • Client consultation
  • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Colouring
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cutting
  • Perming
  • Plait and twist hair
  • Reception duties

Must have reasonable numeracy and literacy skills.

Future prospects

Suitable candidates will have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship to become a fully qualified stylist after 2 years.

Things to consider

This job will entail standing for long periods of time and will require patience and commitment to gain a career in hairdressing.

The role will also include working on a Saturday and late night opening/training.

Integrated qualification combining competence and technical knowledge elements.

Functional Skills
Maths and English Level 1 working towards Level 2

Level 2 Award in Rights and Responsibilities in Hairdressing
(PLTS) Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Day release will be required once a week at the training salon.
