Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Your duties will include:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of all of the menu from scratch including breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Assist in clear down, including washing up and cleaning
  • Maintain the highest hygiene standards

You will receive a full induction into the work place, training on the job as well as attending Exeter College once a week to complete your Apprenticeship training.

Desired skills

You must be an excellent time keeper, be willing to work hard and well as part of a team. You need to be able to remain calm during busy periods and work with confidence.

Personal qualities

You must be friendly, approachable, well mannered and passionate about food and cooking it!

Qualifications required

Applicants must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade A*-D including Maths and English or equivalent.

Future prospects

After the successful completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship you may consider progressing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship. There may also be an opportunity to become a permanent member of staff on completion of the Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Hospitality requires working unsocial hours. You will be working weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
