Your work within the salon will include shampooing, blow – drying, reception duties, colouring, cutting, Health & Safety and all hairdressing duties. The successful candidate must be a team player and also be able to work on their own initiative. You will be expected to assist the senior stylists and help with the general housekeeping in the salon.

Our ideal apprentices have a smart appearance with great communication skills as you will be dealing with our clients face to face and over the phone.

Personal qualities

You will be required to provide models for assessments, hairdressing requires you to work with colouring chemicals so you will have science lessons relating to chemical reactions and the make up of hair and the scalp.

Our perfect apprentices must be able to work well under pressure in a demanding environment. You are great at working in a large, busy team, but also confident to work alone without assistance when you have received the necessary training because you have a proactive approach and are able to use your own initiative.

Our apprentices play a very important role in our salon as you are often the first point of contact with our clients so it is essential you are friendly and polite and happy to talk to our clients face to face and over the phone.

You know its going to be hard work but you get lots of satisfaction from providing excellent customer service, making our clients happy and feeling like you have done a job well. You are motivated because you want to build a great career for yourself.

Qualifications required

We will require our successful apprentices to have GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C (or equivalent)

Future prospects

For the right candidate they will offer a permanent position within the salon.

Things to consider

This is a great start to your career but you must be aware we are a large team in a busy salon so you will feel comfortable fitting into our team and are able to stay calm under pressure.

You are aware that you will this role will be physically demanding(with breaks) and making lots of teas and coffees to ensure our clients are happy and well looked after, but you get lots of satisfaction providing great customer service.

You must ensure you have suitable travel arrangements in place to get to the Salon weekdays and Saturdays, and to attend your college days.

Training provider

You will be trained in the workplace alongside your usual duties and you will be expected to attend college one day a week or on a block release basis.
You will work towards achieving a level 2 apprenticeship in Hairdressing including work based and knowledge components, an employee rights and responsibilities qualification, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and if required Functional Skills.

Other information

From the 1st October 2015 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
