Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

An apprentice nursery assistant is required to work in Daventry, the nursery has now been open for a year. Working within a team of 12 and caring for 74 children each week.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Working within the required standards, ratios and conditions of registration.
  • Complying with and maintain the policies & procedures and health & safety standards of the kindergarten including the safeguarding of children.
  • Ensuring the nursery offers an environment, which reflects the diversity of all children. 
  • Working as part of a team. 
  • Helping towards positive behaviour management.

Key Tasks:

  • Acting as a key person and organise activities that reflect the Early Years Foundation Stage. 
  • Observing the children and report to the senior or key person if a child appears unwell or has behavioural problems, should they require attention.
  • Supervising the children during general play, paying attention to safety aspects and outside checks.

General Tasks:

To assist the Nursery Practitioners in the following:

  • Offering the children a safe, happy and stimulating environment. 
  • Helping and encouraging a child’s independence, including feeding, toilet training and dressing/undressing. T
  • Treating and reporting all accidents to your senior practitioner. 
  • Keeping the nursery clean and ensure toys are stored in the appropriate place in a condition ready for the following session.
  • Teaching good manners. 
  • Attending meetings, as arranged by your Manager. 
  • Attending open days and events that publicise the nursery, maintaining links within the local community to create a positive nursery profile. 
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post, as instructed by your senior colleagues.

  • To be able to recognise and encourage manipulative skills, by providing appropriate stimuli.
  • Be a good role model for the children. 
  • Be good communication and team work. 
  • Be professional and confidential at all times in and outside of the nursery. 
  • To have an empathy with the children.
  • To have an understanding of all company safeguarding policies and procedures.

Personal qualities

  • An extremely enthusiastic individual who is already qualified at level 2 and ready to start their level 3.
  • The successful candidate must be looking for a career in childcare with Caring Kindergartens.

    A mature approach, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications required

  • Level 2 in Childcare.
  • First Aid certificate - desirable.
  • Food Hygiene certificate – desirable .
  • Minimum of C grade in Maths and English GCSE.

This outstanding nursery is close to the town centre and residential areas, easily accessible from the A509 and A5193 and with good access to the outlying villages. The nursery is situated in a striking redbrick Edwardian house with excellent outdoor space for all age groups.

The nursery offers sessions to meet all parents’ requirements (including a breakfast club from 07.30am) for children aged 12 weeks to 5 years. Meals and snacks made by our in-house cook are provided at regular times throughout the day. We are registered to provide nursery education for the government funded Early Years Free Entitlement, and we also accept childcare vouchers.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
