Future prospects

You gain the apprenticeship as part of phase two (trade) training for the role, meaning you have a guaranteed job the moment you complete it.

As your career progresses, we will continue to train you to the highest standard and equip you with the skills you require to take on new responsibilities. This can be as a result of promotion or when you are offered the opportunity to specialise in other areas of the trade. This means that there are opportunities for management, leadership, health and safety training and a wide range of driving qualifications. Some of the more specialised areas within the Logistic (Supply) Trade include:

Storage and Distribution of Petroleum Products. You could undertake duties were you will be required to store, move, handle, and account for fuels and gases. For example, issuing aviation fuel to aircraft and helicopters, receiving fuel into bulk storage tanks from pipelines, road and ocean tankers, constructing, concealing and operating portable fuel installations on operations and exercises. Of course, with fuel there comes a responsibility for environmental protection, so you will also learn how to deal with spillages to avoid environmental damage.

Dangerous Goods. You may be taught the regulations governing documentation, packaging, storage, handling and transportation of hazardous goods, including explosives for transport by air (to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standards), road and sea.

Mobility. You may be called upon to work alongside our Logistics (Mover) colleagues in a Mobility Flight/Section, where you will be trained to assist with loading and stowing equipment being moved by our transport aircraft.
