Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The duties and responsibilities involved in this role will involve: 

Embark on a rewarding journey combining practical on-the-job experience with theoretical knowledge to develop skills in accounting principles, procedures, and practices.

Work under the guidance of experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience in financial transactions, budgeting, and financial reporting.

  • Develop a strong understanding of accounting software and systems used by the group
  • Pursue ongoing learning and professional development to stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices
  • Checking supplier invoices against purchase orders on our database and then processing them 
  • Reconciling supplier statements against purchase ledger records 
  • Updating sales ledger and sending invoices and credit notes to customers 
  • Verifying the accuracy of accounts records (from both sales and purchase perspectives) and identifying errors 
  • Assisting the accounts manager with administrative duties to enable smooth preparation of VAT returns and yearly accounts 
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers and dealing with invoicing disputes

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

Training will be at North Lindsey College/ Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer.   Block release/ Day release  You will undertake the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 standard.    

More training information

You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or Maths if needed. You will undertake both on and off-the-job training by a team of industry-qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge, and experience.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)

Other requirements

You must be able to travel to and from work and college. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
