Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Our Asset Manager Apprentices are office based however visits to site include asset inspections and the area they are situated, meeting specialist engineers and contractors involved in projects. As our Clean Asset Manager Apprentice, you will work to develop competence in:  

  • Identifying and leading investigations into asset performance shortfalls or opportunities.  
  • Leading projects to identify issues with assets, source resolutions and work with internal and external stakeholders to bring assets back up to performance.  
  • Utilising innovative thinking and drawing down on the expertise of the team and stakeholders involved in projects to meet budgets and carbon reduction challenges. 
  • Identifying and managing risks in relation to asset performance, project performance and project completion utilising project management and engineering techniques.  
  • Utilising specialist systems and Microsoft Office Packages to deliver projects.

  • Apply multi criteria decision making methods to proposed intervention options.
  • Select and use decision support tools to make asset management recommendations.
  • Develop asset life-cycle plans including performance monitoring and business case.
  • Classify assets, asset systems, life cycle stages and activities.
  • Plan and manage projects.
  • Assess asset health; condition and performance.
  • Select and apply fault finding technique(s) to identify causes and effects of assets/asset system failures.
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques.

Training schedule

Our Asset Manager Apprentice’s study the Level 4 Asset Manager Apprenticeship which is equivalent to a HNC. This includes learning about the different types of assets, asset management standards and systems, asset lifecycle activities and asset management project tools and techniques. This is delivered through Watertrain, a leading training provider for the water industry.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • Any 2 other subjects (grade C/4/Pass)
  • Any Science Subject (grade C/4/Pass)
  • English (Literature or Language) (grade C/4/Pass)
  • Mathematics (grade C/4/Pass)

A Level in:

Any 3 subjects (grade C/Pass)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
