Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The applicant will be expected to work on a daily basis with cattle, including longhorn cows.
Duties will include:
- General shepherding and help during calving
- Assisiting with administration of medication
- Feeding, bedding and mucking out.
Other jobs include:
- Hay and silage making
- Maintaing our fishing lakes
- Hedge & fence maintenance
- Operating a modern firewood processor.
Applicants must be able to safely drive tractors, telehandlers & quadbikes. Relevant training will be provided.

No public transport to work site, ability to travel to our location is essential. Experience working with livestock and to have the ability to drive large vehicles.
About this company
P Winterton Ltd is a family owned farm based between Wanlip and Cossington farming approximately 500 acres of grassland, a 30 cow pedigree longhorn herd retaining all followers to supply our own butchers shop, based in Mountsorrel. In addition, we purchase 120 head of native breed cattle for conservation grazing & beef production. We also have a 70 acre fishing complex run on a season ticket basis and we run a small firewood business, delivering firewood locally.
