What you will do in your working day

  • Throughout the training on the Early Years Foundation Staged (EYFS) you will carry out observations, assessments and plan focused activities for the children.
  • To be a key person to a small group of children.
  • To maintain the learning journeys for the children with in your key group.
  • To understand and work to SRC Nursery’s policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
  • To liaise and build a relationship with parents and carers, informing them about the nursery and exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents/carers involvement.
  • To work in partnership with management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to working with children and families.
  • Be professional, polite and positive in all verbal and non-verbal interactions with parents, children and your colleague at all times.
  • To promote the inclusion of all children.
  • To have effective communications skills.
  • To keep confidentiality at all times.
  • Practitioners may be asked to work beyond hours, and should be flexible in regards to the safeguarding policy. 
  • To maintain personal contact with parents/carers through meetings, parents evenings, parent workshops, international evenings and informal conversations. 
  • To have regular meetings with parents and carers regarding their child’s development, and set agreed targets for progression on to next steps.
  • To work and maintain contact with outside agencies.
  • To ensure that all toys, equipment and materials are safe, clean and washed on a weekly basis.
  • To carry out risk assessments on a daily basis, both inside and outside the nursery setting.
  • Be aware of and comply with COSHH (control of substances harmful to health) regulations. 
  • To have clear knowledge of procedures to be followed in case of emergency, with the completion and submission of all relevant paperwork. 
  • To assist in keeping the nursery setting clean throughout the day.

The training you will be getting

The successful candidate will undertake a Level 2 Early Year’s Practitioner apprenticeship, which is an 12 month programme plus 3 months for End Point Assessment activities.

The programme is delivered through virtual and face to face training and online learning.

It will include functional skills exams if you don’t have English & Maths GCSE at Grade 4 or above.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

There will be opportunities to apply for a full-time, qualified role on completion of the apprenticeship.

About the employer

SRC Community Nursery was founded over 40 years ago, looking after children from 6 months to 5 years. They work to the Early Years’ Foundation Stage Curriculum to ensure children have an environment that is inviting and stimulating. The nursery is closed for 2 weeks during August and between Christmas and New Year. The nursery is run by a management committee of parents and carers who make decisions about the nursery.
