We are looking for an apprentice to join our team. This means you would be working with a colleague undertaking reactive, ad-hoc and planned maintenance. The apprenticeship would be ideal for someone who is interested in beginning a career which is practical and varied and working to support our residents within the Harborough District.

What you will do in your working day

This role does involve working with other HDC teams, parish councils, external contractors and in the communities. The work covers the whole of the district and on occasion could take place further afield. You would need to hold a full UK driving licence and could be driving the works van to and from jobs, collecting/delivering materials from suppliers or work equipment from storage. You will need to have some experience using a computer and Microsoft applications mainly for online training courses.

The Quick Response Team plays a vital role within the council. The work is varied and interesting and you would be working with an experienced team member with a wealth of knowledge in all fields, who will give support in developing the necessary skills for this position.

The position includes but is not exhaustive to:

  • Property compliance and maintenance
  • Ad-hoc reactive repairs and installations such as street name plates, litter bins and benches
  • Painting structures
  • Planned Projects such as trench works, enhancements to churchyards and cemeteries
  • Health & safety in open spaces. Maintenance of play equipment, repairing or replacing fencing
  • Maintenance of watercourse and flood defences

The training you will be getting

You will complete a level 2 apprenticeship in Property Maintenance. 

You will complete your training at Leicester College Freemens Park Campus on a day release. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for a permanent position on the Quick Response Team or other internal vacancies.

• This is only a fixed term contract and there is no guarantee of a job at the end of your apprenticeship although you will be eligible to apply for internal vacancies and will receive support in completing an application for these roles. • Due to the nature of the job and the equipment you will be using H&S needs to be in the forefront of all tasks • Full UK driving License
