What you will do in your working day

Role and responsibilities:

  • Calibration and inspection of instruments and equipment within the Calibration Laboratory/customers site or in one of our mobile laboratory units
  • Produce and maintain certification and records in accordance with procedures and standards
  • Manage and report on inspection and calibration of equipment
  • Maintain the database for Goods Inward and Outward

The training you will be getting

You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Technical Support Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis

After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - for all starts from 1st July 2017

Servicing across industry sectors throughout the UK ranging from NHS Hospitals in health, Freightliner & Northern Rail in rail to Boeing UK in aviation. The sectors we service are varied and diverse offering a wide variety of equipment/instrumentation and experiences. The location is at our Laboratory in Doncaster but you must be prepared to travel to customer sites throughout the UK with possible overnight stays - all accommodation is arranged and expenses paid
