What you will do in your working day

Maintenance to include tasks such as:

  • All cyclic maintenance and general horticultural duties.
  • Grips, easements, and buddle hole maintenance
  • Street/road cleaning
  • Rural grass cutting/hedge cutting.
  • Assess and repair hard structures or take appropriate other action.
  • Prepare site for landscape construction activities including measuring and setting out site.
  • Maintaining hard structures relevant to the business activity.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation, industry guidance and organisational policies.

The training you will be getting

You will be working towards a Horticulture & Landscape Operative Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 which includes:

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides

Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Hand Held Equipment

Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths is also required for applicants with less than a grade 4/C

Training will be provided by Bicton College
Training will be block release - 9 Block weeks in total (7 in the first year, 2 in the second year) 
You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and your employer

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

As a Milestone Apprentice, after completing your apprenticeship you may be promoted into the business. You may also have the opportunity for further development through professional qualifications or training courses.
