What you will do in your working day

To support a child or group of children in making personal, social and academic progress in their education by:

  • Actively participating in the children’s learning and development
  • Moving learning forward with individual children, small groups or assisting with whole classes
  • Assisting in the delivery of individual work programmes for pupils with special educational needs
  • Discussing with, and reporting back, to class teacher the achievements of children and areas requiring further support
  • Helping to organise and maintain a productive learning environment
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the well-being, behaviour and personal development of pupils enhances their learning opportunities and life skills
  • Maintaining confidentiality inside and outside the workplace
  • Understanding and applying school policies To support the class teacher with their responsibilities for the development and education of children in schools including those with special needs
  • To deliver intervention programmes either 1:1 or in small groups
  • To use routine supervision and care skills to support pupils, including those whohave physical, medical, emotional or educational needs as required
  • To provide lunchtime supervision
