What you will do in your working day

For this role we are looking for an individual with a passion for working with both people and animals. This role will involve working within a small but dynamic team to get the daily work load completed. Within the morning, daily animal maintenance will take the lead of the workload with the team pulling together to complete all jobs required to hold our 5 star licence. The rest of the day is spent ensuring that all our orders are processed, extra animal welfare jobs are completed, and everything else needed to keep are shop looking perfect.

One part of this job will involve directly selling pets to the public. For this area, all candidates must feel confident in speaking in a professional manner with customers and ensuring all information is past on to ensure the future care of our animals. A real passion for animals and their welfare be required to ensure that this is completed correctly, to ensure that we are able to offer the best possible customer service and ensure our animals are all going to the best possible homes.

This role will work directly under our Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader. We also have a Regional Team Leader that will help with the one to one training and help to ensure that we are guiding you in the correct way to make your apprenticeship a success. Our Henlow store specialises within reptiles and exotics. As a result, this role would be perfect for an individual with a true passion for reptiles and wanting to evolve this into a career. Working with animals and in retail can often be hard and messy work. However, for the right person, this can be a very rewarding role with many avenues to develop.

Apprentice Sales Assistant and Animal Carer Duties included but not limited to;

  • Daily Maintenance and health checks on all species of livestock. This includes the administration of oral and topical medication and ensuring a high level of animal health and welfare.
  • The uploading of new livestock and health check to eliminate the spread of disease within the animal collection.
  • Food preparation and presentation to meet the nutritional requirements of all livestock to ensure good health and well
  • Assisting to present the animals to a high level of welfare.
    Liaising with clients in all areas of sales. Giving the highest level of customer service to all customers and ensuring that all clients leave with a positive attitude to the business.
  • Promoting sales and providing accurate and clear information regarding products and livestock during the sales process.
  • Stocking, replenishing and cleaning all sales areas.
  • Assisting with product selection.
  • Processing payments of various types.
  • Offering advice to customers.
  • Dealing with initial customer complaints.
  • Utilising specialist product knowledge.
  • Monitoring and updating sales display areas.
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries and orders in a professional manner.
  • Ordering of new stock and assisting in the receipt and unloading of goods.
  • Ensuring stock levels are kept accurate and suitability stocked at all times.

The training you will be getting

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • Functional skills in English and maths if required.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

You may be able to work up within the company to higher levels. With three shops, we have opportunities for growth. This also is possible as the company continues to grow. All of our main management individuals have come from lower level positions and built their way up to more senior roles.

Things to consider
