What you will do in your working day

  • To assist with revenue and balance sheet reconciliations eg suspense, payroll reconciliations etc.

  • To prepare and process journals, eg. overhead recharges

  • Assisting with the accounts receivable (sundry debtors) process

  • Assisting with the accounts payable (creditors) process

  • To assist with the daily banking and updating the cashflow

  • Raising purchase orders and debtor invoices for the Accountancy Team

  • Assisting the Management Accounts team with the provision of information for reports and analysis

  • Assisting in the closure of accounts process, supported and guided by senior colleagues

  • Supporting the Accountancy Team to ensure the completion of Government and other returns

  • To work flexibly across the Accountancy Team providing the relevant support where required

  • Provide other accountancy assistance and financial support as directed


  • To undertake appropriate continuing personal development in accordance with an explicit plan


  • To apply the Council’s policies, procedures and regulations in all aspects of the Directorate’s work including HR, legal and financial matters.

The training you will be getting

  • The apprentice will study initially towards the AAT level 2 and progress to AAT level 3 and 4
  • The training will take place at a local college and will be day release

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • As an apprentice you will progress through the AAT qualification. Once qualified, there is potential for a permanent position as an Accountancy Assistant with further training if applicable.
