What you will do in your working day

  • Use of the practice record keeping system to ensure accuracy in recording and capturing relevant patient information
  • Greeting patients and arranging patient appointments
  • Answering telephones and relaying messages accurately where appropriate
  • Handling and responding to emails and forms submitted via the website portal
  • Communication with third parties as required
  • Preparation of administrative forms for patients and return of these forms to the correct person in practice
  • Adhering to the opening and closing procedures of the surgery
  • Checking tidiness of the general practice area after surgeries, am and pm

The training you will be getting

The Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard is delivered in the workplace, delivery method to be confirmed.

The apprenticeship will cover the following core areas:

  • Record and document production
  • Planning and organisation
  • Project management
  • Business fundamentals
  • Relevant regulation
  • Managing performance
  • Personal qualities
  • Responsibility

The apprenticeship will be assessed throughout the apprenticeship using a portfolio of evidence and professional discussion.

End Point Assessment

The End Point Assessment will test the entire standard, and be undertaken as follows: 

  • Knowledge Test – A multiple choice test to last a maximum of 60 minutes- including 50 equally weighted multiple-choice questions 
    Portfolio-based Interview – The interview is to last 30-45 minutes
  • A portfolio of learning is developed during the programme and provides a structure for this conversation
  • Project Presentation - A presentation on a project they have completed or a process they have improved. The presentation lasts 10-15 minutes with a further 10-15 minutes for a Q&A session

You will achieve a Level 3 Business Administration qualification upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Patient confidentiality is required at all times. Successful applicants who are registered at the practice will be asked to register with a different practice whilst they are in post.
