What you will do in your working day

Being an apprentice at Templer Homebuild means real “hands on” work on real jobs. You will combine a combination of college and practical learning to study your chosen trade. You will get the opportunity to put your new skills into practice, while supported by the expert guidance of our experienced tradespeople - your own mentor.

What will I be doing? 

The specific type of work will vary contract to contract, most contracts will be based in social housing. The types of tasks we cover include:

  • Maintenance range of domestic properties
  • Ripping out and preparing empty properties for new tenants
  • Planned and responsive repair work
  • You will gain an overview and basic understanding of multiple trades including carpentry, electrical, plastering and plumbing
  • Work both inside and outside in all weather, whether it’s boiling hot or freezing cold!

The training you will be getting

As well as this, you will:

  • Attend college to understand “the how and the why” of your chosen trade (usually 1 day a week)
  • Build a fantastic portfolio of evidence to go towards your End Point Assessment
  • Be a valued member of the team and contribute to the overall success

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Following successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a role as a fully trained operative at Ian Williams.
