We are a friendly and supportive team based in the beautiful location of a grade 2 listed Edwardian garden and Local Nature Reserve with SINC status. Streatham Common Rookery is also used for events. There are plenty of activities and projects being organised by Sccoop in addition to gardening tasks to get involved with.

What you will do in your working day

  • Grass cutting and mowing to all forms of grass and lawn areas, flower beds and shrubberies.
  • Tree surgery, hedge cutting, grounds maintenance, line marking, nature conservation and weed control.
  • Gritting an snow clearance, maintenance and inspections

The training you will be getting

  • Horticulture or landscape construction operative level 2
  • At the end of the 2 Year apprenticeship you will be a qualified Horticulture Landscape Operative receiving a certificate.
  • Your on-site training will be with the employer in South London SW16 3HR
  • The one day training at college each week will be done at Capel Manor College in one of our campuses that is nearest to where you live. Enfield, Regents Park or Gunnersbury Park
  • You will receive qualifications in Emergency First aid at work Level 3 and Pesticides qualification Level 2. If you have not already achieved maths and English you will also be qualified to a Functional skills Level 1/2

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Each apprentice will be given the opportunity to grow within the business, our vision is to grow our own qualified staff, and the apprenticeship scheme is one method of achieving this goal.

During the apprenticeship scheme, the apprentice will work with a qualified member of staff and be provided the support and guidance required to progress within the company.

Things to consider

The applying applicant must consider that the role is physically demanding, throughout all variances of weather. Other aspects of the work include early starts, able to cope with regular physical work. Must be willing to work outside in all weathers.

About the employer

Streatham Common Co-operative is a community run social enterprise managing all services from gardening to litter picking in the Streatham Rookery since 2015. Many of you know us as "SCCoop". Currently, we were the first community group with direct responsibility for managing at Lambeth Park. In 2016, we took over the paddling pool on Streatham Common saving it from closure, and in 2017 started regular work in the Streatham Common local Nature Reserve. Our board is made up from local volunteers, who are elected at our AGM and representative from our key partners, we currently have six full and part time staff helped by dozens of volunteers.
