What you will do in your working day

As a Building Services Engineering Apprentice, you will provide assistance to Engineers and other construction professionals in the development of cost effective and sustainable design solutions, working on projects for various sectors including retail, leisure and health, ensuring they are designed to comply with legal standards and respond to net zero emission targets.

This role will specialise in the electrical side of building services but will have exposure to all departments working alongside an experienced team in their office in Leeds.

  • Designing lightings systems using industry software
  • Assisting with the design drawings for electrical services such as lighting, power, fire and security
  • Use of programmes such as AutoCad/Revit/BIM/Hevacomp for designs
  • Learning how to interpret information, carry out calculations and analyse the outputs
  • Supporting project teams with the delivery of electrical services
  • Learn the different techniques and methods to design building services projects

The training you will be getting

  • The successful applicant will work towards a Level 3 Building Services Engineering Technician qualification, which will take 36 months plus 3 months EPA (End Point Assessment) and will be through Leeds College of Building.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

This standard aligns with the professional recognition with Engineering Council for Engineering Technician (EngTech). Many progress into higher education including HNC/HND, higher apprenticeships or a degree upon completion. With professional development into roles such as Building Services Design Engineer or Electrical Design Engineer.
