What you will do in your working day

  • Learning how to provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Nursery
  • Giving support to personnel within the nursery
  • Learning about all aspects of good childcare practice
  • To learn about the differing needs of individual key children and how to provide a fun, stimulating and loving approach towards each child and their learning
  • To learn to plan a supportive environment, both inside and outdoors, that stimulates learning opportunities for children and fosters dispositions for learning
  • To foster children’s emotional wellbeing and support them to become confident and independent young children who care about others
  • To learn how to encourage children’s acquisition of language and social skills through play, fostering a love of books and creating a language-rich environment
  • To assist staff in caring for the personal and dietary needs of each child with sensitivity and kindness
  • To always act as a positive role model for the children in her / his care
  • To learn how to maintain accurate and up to date records for each key child through observation, assessment and planning

  • Day release: 1 day per week at Chelmsford College

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The potential of a permanent position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, with the possibility of continuing onto a L3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.

Whipper-Snappers ensures that all staff attend training to maintain up-to-date and relevant knowledge.

Established in 1994 by sisters Tina Carnegie-Dielhenn PhD and Lynda Bocarisa, Whipper-snappers is a privately owned full daycare nursery and out of school provision for babies and children aged from 0-12 years. Our purpose is to provide a fun, engaging and loving environment for early learning for all children in our care. Located in a rural location on the outskirts of Felsted, Essex, our welcoming restored barns are set well away from the road in approximately five acres of land, overlooking open countryside. We aim to enhance the development and education of all children in our care through the provision of research-informed practice. Children are held at the heart of Whipper-snappers. Therefore, we work together as a team with shared values, seeking to develop, encourage and maintain high standards in care and education for the benefits of all the children and their families.
