    £16,603.22

    The salary of this position is paid at the national minimum wage rate for 19-20 year olds (£6.83 an hour). After 12 months of this apprenticeship, if you are age 21+ by then, your pay will progress to the higher NMW rate applicable to your age.

  • Working week

    Monday to Friday, working hours are generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm but are adjustable thanks to our agile working policy.

What you will do in your working day

  • Assisting the Highways Maintenance Team to undertake technical tasks, duties and the various activities associated with undertaking road maintenance works and transport services for Warwickshire
  • You’ll be involved from day one on the planning and design of
    improvements to existing roads, new roads and the transport infrastructure
  • You'll gain great experience working within various County Highways teams, including highway maintenance, street lighting, and highway controls

The training you will be getting

  • You'll be trained in all aspects of the work undertaken by County Highways, plus have extensive access to a range of training opportunities provided for Warwickshire County Council staff
  • You'll also attend South and City College Birmingham on weekly day release for workshops and training that will enable you to complete the Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship qualification, and gain professional recognition as an Engineer by the Institute for Civil Engineers

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will be retained in a further role as a Highways Engineer, and progress to take further engineering qualifications such as the Civil Engineer HNC
  • We have enabled this pathway for several previous apprentices, it is a standard career pathway that we are proud to say has been successful in training many apprentices to become fully qualified engineers

Things to consider

Warwickshire County Council has an agile working policy and you will be expected to work at times in the office but also from home. All equipment needed for this will be provided. Training at college will take place in central Birmingham, please consider travel arrangements for this when applying.
