What you will do in your working day

The job role includes:

  • Supporting in the classroom as a general class TA
  • Working alongside a class teacher to provide reading, spelling, writing and maths support
  • Undertaking general classes duties e.g photocopying, laminating, adding to working walls, classroom displays, ensuring classroom areas are tidy and useable
  • Supervising/organising games during playtimes and during a proportion of lunchtime
  • Supporting/supervising activities after school either supporting in a club or in ‘After School Care Club’
  • A chance to be supported in a caring nurturing environment which values CPD
  • A mentor who will support them with on-the-job support and be available to support with coursework if needed.
  • The opportunity to work alongside other more experienced staff, to observe staff and spend time talking to staff about their role.

Your day to day will look like:

  • Start at 8.30am
  • Support class teacher to set up the classroom for the days learning
  • Complete any photocopying, collect fruit and milk (if applicable)
  • Listen to children read
  • Practice spellings with individuals
  • Support a group of children within the classroom to make independent progress with reading, spelling, writing & maths
  • Supervise on the playground at break time and lunchtime - engage children in playing games
  • Lunchtime - 30 minutes
  • Phase work including small group (maximum of 3) coaching, listening to readers, supporting individuals with spelling or multiplication interventions
  • Classroom display work, photocopying or laminating for the phase
  • Supporting a child (ren) in class with afternoon work
  • Working alongside others in an after-school club or in after school care club.
  • Day ends: 4.30pm

The training you will be getting

You will be working towards a level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. 

You may need to work towards Level 2 functional skills in maths and English if not achieved at GCSE.

All training will be provided remotely, via teams, during paid working hours. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Initially would work within the classroom as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant.

Potentially, for the ‘right’ candidate, be able to work after a period of time as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant delivering intervention groups or covering for class teacher in their absence as a cover supervisor.
