What you will do in your working day

There is a lot involved in keeping HGVs on the road, so you will gain a full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) license’s and legal obligations and as a Technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard

The Heavy Vehicle Technician’s job falls into three main categories:

• Servicing – regular preventive checks
• Maintenance – replacing any parts showing signs of wear and tear
• Repairs – repair or replacing anything damaged or faulty

Responsibilities for this role will include, but will not be limited to:

• Working on a wide range of commercial vehicles in all aspects of repair and service
• Use of diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults
• Working with Lead Technicians on more complex and extensive diagnostic and repair tasks
• Assisting with keeping the workshop clean and tidy

Salary - £6.00 per hour in the first year, increasing in years 2 and 3 in line with skills and performance

The training you will be getting

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to Remit’s Automotive Academy in Derby. There are a total of 15 x 1 week blocks over the 3 year programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you. You will also receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach to help you achieve:

• IMI Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3
• Functional Skills Level 2 in English & Maths (if required)

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

You will undertake a Level 3 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) qualification over a 3 year period. Your learning won’t stop there as you will progress on through our training and development plan right through to Master Technician. There are also opportunities to advance into management roles, from Lead Automotive Technician right through to Area Maintenance Manager. This also brings with it the chance to utilise our relocation policy to move throughout the UK should you wish.
